Fruit
The fruit will be born
It will come up
Though the preparation
Of the soil
Was dull
The planting,
Arduous still,
The tending
Pruning
Watering
Weeding
So many stages
In the waiting—
Don’t give up hope
For the fruit
Don’t doubt its
Spring
Its heyday
Its most lush season
Even though you haven’t
Seen it yet
It will come
The other parts
Of the prep
Are just as
Important
For perennial
Health
Longevity
Is what we’re after
Fruit for a lifetime
Is the plan.
“He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”—Psalm 1:3
