Get Through Quick-
Speed read
Skip some steps
Get to the bottom
Of this story…
Get to the end.
Push through
Make it stop
Rush on past
Consume faster
There’s more to ingest!
(They told you
In school.)
They told you
To
Get on through.
Rushing on past
Not able to
Feel
At all
The consumption
Is for knowledge—
Nothing more.
A taste,
To see—
To protect—
Make sure the
Heart
Only peeks
Through the lines
Don’t take it in
Don’t read slow enough
To let it
Breathe
Into your soul
Don’t let it catch
It might catch you
It might catch on
You might catch up
To the rest
Is this a game?
To compete?
Is this experience of life
A rush—
For what?
To experience?
To gain?
To spend?
To understand
With the mind?
What about the body?
How does integration
Happen
On through
Your whole being?
Making it part
Of your flesh?
Your habits?
A part of you
Everlasting—
What about your heart?
Was it left behind
On page one?
The heart might be
The slowest one
It needs to breathe
To feel, real slow
To take in the scenery
As you go
So, slow down
Long enough to see
To peer in
To experience
The finer things
Beauty is costly
It takes time
Is it worth it?
Not everything can be.
You have to pick and
Choose
What you ingest
Protect—
If the heart is the
Slow one,
And if it
Is a pump,
“Guard your heart
Above all else,”
They say,
“For it is the
Wellspring
Of life.”
(Proverbs 4:23)
