The Seated Self

The Holy Scripture says that after Jesus defeated hell, came back to life, ascended into heaven, that He was seated at the right hand of the Father.

The seat of honor

The seat of rest

The seat of power

The seat of belonging

The seat of kingship

The seat of security

The seat of unquestioned identity

Scripture also says that we are seated “in Christ.”

Today, whether we feel it or not

The spirit knows

Some deep and central part of who we are

Knows our seated self

In this place,

However difficult to access in the soul–

The mind

The heart

The will

We know.

In the secret place

We know who we truly are.

Deep calls to deep

There’s a glimpse

There, we taste

And see

Our purpose

Our relevance

In this world

There, we find rest

And all of who we are

Comes to the table again

It flows from this place–

Seated

Empowered

Secure

It’s real

Today,

When you

Hit bumps in the road,

When you’re grappling with your

Sense of self

May you know that these

Disturbances too

Will form you,

Reveal to you

Who you really are

And may you remember

Your seated self

May your body engage

The deeper place

Which reminds you

Of exactly who you are

Your whole self

Dropping down

Into that spirit place

Into the deepest part of who you are

Relaxing

Into remembrance of

Your grand significance

Your purpose

Your confidence

Surging back–

To simply sit

And know

The grandeur

The smallness

The simplicity

Of your true identity.
