Stop Shoulding On Yourself

The “shackles of the shoulds–”

Not cute.

The whining will ensue,

The victim-mentality

Will be thick.

The pressure is fake.

It is felt.

It is real, in that sense.

It’s a door

With paper over it,

Flush with the wall.

It’s heavy,

An imagined yoke

Of slavery ensues.

But don’t worry–

It’s breakable too.

What breaks the

Shackles of the shoulds?

Freedom

Resistance

Going against

That impulse

Stopping in your tracks

Refusal

To do—

From that sorta view

Try it out.

It might feel bad at

First

But the fun part

Starts

After some practice.

Rest is resistance

Until you get past

The threshold.

You can do this.

Pay attention close

To:

“should”

“must”

the “have tos”

Popping in

So succinctly.

They aren’t welcomed

Here

In this freedom house.

And once, with that first

Effort threshold crossed,

They’ll float away–

Stop bothering you,

And badgering

So regularly—

But you’ll be ready

When they return.

You’ll be armed

By your appetite,

Changed for once—

Lacking

Shackles

At last.

And just for fun’s sake…

~fake moody high school photos I took 😂 before I knew about…

“The Shackles of The Shoulds”

(I think my cousin actually took this…so so rich 📸)
