Do Not Fear

The principles of Jesus still work—

He has give us enough

His Spirit to empower us

Is enough

To practice patience— 

When someone is mouthing off in your face

It’s enough

To cultivate compassion 

For idiot behavior

It’s enough

To see love come through 

When it seems there’s no way

His principles seem unattainable 

On our own—

Because they are.

Love, joy, peace

In a world like today?!

The impossibility stares us in the face

In the face of another election—

Another job loss—

Another illness, sickness, or loss—

The beauty of the mystery 

However 

Is that it's not our own power

At all 

That will solve world hunger

Meet all the orphans’ needs

Protect the widow

And bring justice to every part of our world

It’s His power, resting on weakness

That’s enough.

The mystery of His empowering Holy Spirit 

Resting on us

Even though we cannot fully comprehend it

May even sound too good to be true—

But it’s not.

It’s still a sufficient answer

For all—

And it’s just a matter of time…

Before His Empowering Spirit  

With Us 

In us

Through us

Accomplishes all—

Defeats the darkness for good

Dries every tear

Finally ushering in the kingdom of peace

Once and for all

So, in the meantime, 

Take heart.

For He said He overcame the world

Let’s believe Him

Believe He will do it

Wait for it—

Rest on it—

Partner with His Spirit 

Moving in you and me

Stand on His promises

For a better tomorrow.

Contemplate the beautiful things

Let a little love in

Day by day 

Good deed by good deed

Kind word by kind word

Stay strong

& believe Him

His principles are alive

Because He's alive

He’s still the King

Of all of these things

Take heart

And don’t be afraid.
