Expect The Daily Bread

Pie by Naomi Smith

Like when you’re doing anything—so much of what we make is what we expect to make. Any artist can testify to the fact that if they expect no motivation, they won’t even start. Sometimes, even though we like to be “moved by the Muse,” the truth is that we set the expectation of receiving and making until there is flow. Sometimes this takes longer than we think. Sometimes we are truly trying to “force” creativity so we just need rest.

Set the expectation. The expectation is that He comes. Then it’s up to Him. He comes. He will come.

Set the expectation that He’s good.

Set the expectation that you’ll finish.

Set the expectation you will heal.

Partner with the expectation that God will move, however subtly in your life. Maybe it’s in your heart, your eyes, your circumstances. It is His nature to move. Watch for the subtle movement. Watch for the water to ripple, the wind to blow. Watch the trees give-way to the wind. They ARE affected, even if you can’t see the wind. His nature is to act. To be seen.

This year, may we have a better expectation of His “realness.” May we have a higher expectation of His goodness—His love that will pierce through all darkness.

Your expectations are not too high. Sometimes, they need to be willing to be surprised, but they aren’t too high.

Matthew 6:11

“Give us this day our daily bread.”—Jesus
