A Series for Making Room
Make Room
Isaiah 40:3-5
3 A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
When I think of the birth of Jesus, I often first think of how Scripture highlights the various and vast responses that people had to the King of Kings’ arrival. We’ve got those who had angelic encounters, those that followed a star, and the rest of the world…that kept on going–business as usual.
Even if they didn’t have an angelic encounter…were there some that saw the star and wondered? Some that felt something shift? Were there some that knew a new hope that night?
So, what will our response be this year to the King of Kings?
After all, He’s still alive and well.
He’s still on the throne, seated in rest and authority.
He is still speaking.
He’s still moving.
He’s still pursuing us.
He’s still whispering…
How will He appear afresh to us?
Will we have eyes to see and ears to hear?
Will we respond with gratitude, worship–
or even a conversation with a friend in wonder of how He’s moving in our lives?
Will our hearts be filled with that wonder? A craving to find out more?
Will we ask, seek, and knock as our souls depend on it?
Will we follow a star for miles and miles…just to have a glimpse of the King in all His glory?
May the Holy Spirit of Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords appear to us and gift us with a fresh grace to receive of Him in small and large ways this month.
May we perceive Him richly–differently even–in our hearts and all around us.
Let us hunger and thirst for Him together.
Come, let us sing together again–there is more of Him to be had!
Let’s raise our expectations and expect the unexpected.
Make room!
